The Kingbridge Garden was created as a living experiment in regenerative growing, blending permaculture principles, ecological restoration, and culinary purpose into one evolving landscape.
The original raised beds were built using layered regenerative methods inspired by both permaculture and hügelkultur design. Each bed contains logs, branches, forest mycelium, organic matter, and soil working together as a living system beneath the surface. Over time, these layers naturally retain moisture, build healthy soil biology, store carbon, and nourish plant life from the ground up.
In its earliest years, the garden was dedicated primarily to pollinator support and soil regeneration. Medicinal flowers and native flowering species were planted to attract bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects while allowing the soil ecosystem to mature and strengthen naturally.
As the garden evolved, so did its purpose.
Today, the space serves as a hybrid chef garden supporting Kingbridge’s culinary team with fresh herbs, edible flowers, vegetables, and seasonal ingredients used throughout our menus. Annual crops are interwoven with perennial plants and pollinator wildflowers, creating a biodiverse ecosystem that supports both people and the surrounding environment.
